The Basics of Six Pack Science

Like I said, there are lots of different approaches to growing a six pack and the only way to find the right one for you is to spend some serious time delving into the information right here.

But the science remains fairly consistent nonetheless and there's just enough space here for us to run over the core principles (that's a pun).

Here's what you need to know:

A low body fat percentage will guarantee visible abs. If your bodyfat is sub 10%, then your abs will definitely be visible. That said, it is also possible to have visible abs with a 13% body fat or even higher. Either way though, losing fat is definitely the preference.

Fat loss cannot be targeted. That is to say that there's no way to 'choose' where you want to lose the weight. This is pre-determined by your genetics and some women will find they become completely flat chested before they lose their belly fat. It's a shame, but that's the reality.

There are many ways to train to lose weight but perhaps the most in-vogue currently is to use HIIT. This is 'High Intensity Interval Training' and it basically means that you're going to alternate between periods of high intensity and periods of lower intensity. This creates an 'after burn effect' that helps you lose weight all day.

Building stronger abs also makes a difference to visibility. If you don't believe me, try tensing your abs right now and you'll find they become instantly more visible!

Your 'six pack' is really one sheet of muscle called the rectus abdominis. The role of this muscle is to keep you upright and to help you bend forward. Therefore, exercises that pull you forward from the furthest back position will have the biggest impact. Try the myotatic crunch.
